Journeying to Alicante, Spain

November 19th, 2010 No comments

It might be commerce or enjoyment that has you traveling to Alicante, Spain, but whatever the motivation for your going, getting there is easy. Tourism is making its way to this previously industrial working metropolis. Consequently, more traveler friendly resources are becoming available. Located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea and the southeast region of Spain, Alicante is a busy harbor and a well-populated region. That does not detract from the stunning mountains to the west or the fact that it has some of the loveliest beaches to its east.

Getting There

Alicante can be reached by air from countries worldwide. The El Altet International Airport is situated presently 6 miles (10 km) from the center of the city. Present are flights on a daily basis from other chief cities in Spain as well as Madrid, Ibiza and Barcelona. Major airline carriers from around Europe also service the Alicante airport.

Traveling to Alicante is also achievable by train or bus. Car rental services can be utilized inside the city limits as well. Since Alicante is a area with its key city bearing the same name, there are numerous other smaller towns that are reachable in Alicante by the tram and trenet. These minor railways depart en route to Denia, Altea, and Benidorm. The two-way services in and out of Alicante use motorbuses to join the town with the faraway towns and villages.

Taking a ferry commencing from Algeria can carry you to Alicante, which you can get via Romeu to Oran or Algeria. This is not the best or most dependable means of getting there since there can be upsets in service because of the political feeling of Algeria at any given occasion.

Once within the city limits, it is actually a walking city due to its little size. conversely, taxis and intercity busses are accessible in addition to the tram to and from Plaza del Mar to the airport outside of town.

Where to Stay

Many high-rise hotels in the urban center allow you to stay in the hub of the commerce district. There are views from these skyscrapers near the mountains or ocean.

If you rather a more resort like feeling for your stay, just outside the city alongside the beaches are hotels with out of this world seaside views and simple entrance to the sun and sand.

Beach property is as well-appointed as found in every resort and offers family-friendly options with a Mediterranean flare. These hotels are close to both the city and beach in this interdependent area.

Preparing For A Catskiing Experience At The Retallack Adventure Lodge

November 19th, 2010 No comments

Catskiing is a concept that started in Selkirk in British Columbia, Canada over thirty years ago, when Brenda and Allan Drury realized that the snow cats used to groom the ski hills could be used to ferry powder snow skiing lovers to the countryside wilderness in all of the British Columbia mountain range.

Since its inception, cat skiing has remained mainly as the preserve of Canada, its birth place. Canada still dominates in offering this sporting experience to skiing lovers owing to its topography and weather. The sport is being introduced slowly to other countries that traditionally never offered it such as Chile, New Zealand and USA.

The Retallack Lodge in New Denver, British Columbia, is one of the leading lodges offering cat skiing adventure packages to guests. Canada has attracted many guests over the years for its worthy reputation of offering deep powder skiing experience. It owes this largely to the snow\’s year round availability especially in British Columbia Alpine range areas. Retallack Adventure is found in these ranges and is one of the leading provider of a rich lifetime experience to its guests.

Retallack is fortunate to be in the right place. It is within the proximity of mountain peaks that run along the alpine ridge lines. The mountains ensure that Retallack has deep snow until late into the season. They boast of having access to many steep and different terrains such as ridges, avalanche chutes, large bowls and wide opening in trees.

The treed terrain protects the snow from the harmful sun and other elements thus offering thick powdered snow which is a thrilling experience for skiers. The glades also provide spectacular scenes for taking photos and creating great memories of the skiing experience. Like any mountain range the types of trees change as you descend the mountain from the upper slope with fir, then to the cedar and finally the hemlock forest at the valley in the bottom.

One has to realize that back country skiing is a demanding sport. You need to condition and prepare your body for the demanding experience several weeks before you take your holiday at Retallack Adventure. Cardiovascular training such as running, swimming and aerobic activities among others is highly recommended since back country skiing requires almost the same endurance a running cross country. If you can manage it, spend a few days warming up in a ski resort in British Columbia mountains days before your powder snow experience; this will prepare you for the kind of terrain and type of snow you will likely encounter at Retallack.

Retallack has taken all manner of provisions to ensure that the guests enjoy skiing in the back country safely. All the staff involved in taking the guests in the field to those monitoring the weather are though roughly trained and equipped with the state of the art equipment in safety. It is extremely important to the Retallack Lodge, that the guests are safe and have a memorable experience.

When you get to Retallack, you will be advised on the potential risks of catskiing in the back country so that no one becomes careless. It is in your interest to pay attention to the guide instructions at all time when skiing. Guests are trained and well equipped with BCA trackers, DTS avalanche transceiver and these items you are required to wear at all times. Atlanta Moving Company Three Most Common Packing Errors

November 17th, 2010 No comments

When preparing for moving it is important to use the good techniques and the correct boxes to help your move goes smoothly. Many moving customers make the miscue of using the incorrect materials for the specific things they are boxing leading to a poor result. The three most seen packing problems seen by this Atlanta moving company are:

1.) When packing fragile items not packing them a purpose built container known as the \”dish pack\”or \”5.2 cubic foot double walled box\”. Moving customers spend allot of time and energy to prepare each item very carefully and then use the wrong container and then the time and effort to protect those fragile items is wasted. Talk to a Atlanta moving company and they will tell you protect your breakables in a dish pack it one of the best things you can do to protect your fragile items during your move.

2.) Customers use to large a box for heavy items. As the items that you are packing for moving day get heavier the box should get smaller. Books (which are heavy for the amount of space they take up) should be packed in the smallest standard of the moving boxes the \”1.5 cubic foot box\”or \”small box\” or \”book box\”. By using a smaller box the Atlanta moving company who is hired to move you will be able to stack your boxes properly on a moving dolly and load correctly onto the moving truck. If on the other hand you use a large or even extra large box to pack books you will wind up with a box that is too heavy to be moved and when your movers attempt to pick up that box it fall apart and completely loose it shape. Do your self a favor and don\’t try to use really large boxes to pack heavy items or you will find your move will not go smoothly.

3.) Moving customers not properly securing packed boxes. Quite often people make the mistake of not taping the box tops closed or using the wrong kind of tape to seal the top and or bottom of the box. If you use the wrong tape to seal the top and bottom of the boxes as soon as the Atlanta moving company pick up your box it will likely fall apart. Duck tape, masking tape, scotch tape will all lead to boxes pulling apart. When buying tape for your move ask for packing tape it will hold your boxes shut and belongings in.

Packing your boxes is a very important step in getting ready for your move…don\’t overlook it or it will undermine all other efforts of your movers.

Before starting to pack for your upcoming move check with a Atlanta Moving Company to learn how to pack like pros.

Finding Cheap Offers For Fuerteventura Hotels

November 17th, 2010 No comments

As a tourism destination it is still young, but despite this Fuerteventura has grown into one of Europe\’s most popular holiday hot-spots, and welcomes over six million visitors each year.

If you\’re thinking of booking a hotel in on the island, you will be able to find the many hotels in Fuerteventura listed on online directories that cater for tourism specifically on the island, or on popular hotel booking sites. Booking and review sites offer user-generated ratings that give good (and bad) ratings for each hotel. Consequently, hotel with an unexpectedly low rating might actually meet what you\’re looking for, so you could to use that as a (respectful) haggling point, if you go directly to the hotel.

The most popular sight on the island is El jabe, which lies to the north of the island, and includes large sand dunes that have been formed over thousands of years, due to the westerly winds of North Africa carrying sand from the Sahara Desert across the Atlantic ocean. It is because of this meteorological factor – shared by all the Canary Islands – that there are still a lot of unspoiled beaches on the island, which are all accessible by car.

The constant winds make for perfect wind-surfing and surfing conditions all year round, which of course, the island\’s tourists also enjoy partaking in. The island is also known for being able to view whales and dolphins off its east coast – the currents and tides change seasonally, which provides suitable environments for migration.

Fuerteventura hotels are quite new in tourism terms (the first hotel only opened in Fuerteventura in 1965), with most being built in the after 1975. This means that the buildings are generally of a high standard. Tourism in Fuerteventura, though a main destination in the Canaries and popular with Europeans of all ages, is still said to be targeted more to couples and young families, but there is something to cater for all holiday goers.

Finding Fuerteventura hotels is easy, but you should look for the right offers

Wedding Guidelines For Rolls Royce Limo Service MD

November 16th, 2010 No comments

Limo service MD is a rental company to search for when rent limousine for a number of functions for instance weddings, bachelor parties etc, is slowly gaining a lot of popularity. And, surely, opting for a Rolls Royce limo service adds that antique feel to the event. Limos are no longer positioned as assets possessed among the wealthy to manifest their own opulence. They\’re being increasingly used as good quality passenger carriers and are being offered by quite a few transport service providers throughout States. You\’ll find ample selections for the consumer to pick from.

A traditional Rolls Royce offers that extra ordinary touch to your special occasion, whether it be wedding parties, wedding anniversaries or home comings. It adds that memorable exclusivity for the affair, causing you to feel incredibly special. Taking a ride in one of these could end up being a \”dream come true\” for many individuals. It really is that extraordinary feel that creates your day absolutely novel. At the same time, finding a Rolls Royce limo service MD provider may very well be tricky. You might want to keep some important facts in mind, prior to the actual choice.

Roughly 20% of limousine companies close shop annually, therefore whenever you aim at hiring an old-fashioned vehicle, you should choose wisely. Acquire a Rolls Royce a limo service MD professional that is certainly accredited and covered with insurance. They must have been in this business long enough and should be able to generate client references to verify their service standards. Evaluate the given references for analyzing their previous performances.

The packages that a Rolls Royce limo service MD company offers might be special. Therefore look for a duly authorized service contract. The agreement should plainly mention the fact that you have hired for a vintage automobile and should also provide all other terms and conditions in black and white. Encourage them to put down every factor of the service offered, in detail for future validation.

Rolls Royce limos are basically old or classic models. They can be completely unreliable. As a result it is essential to opt for a limo service MD supplier who has taken care of their automobiles to perfection and upgraded them to accommodate modern needs. Only then can they supply a trouble free experience. The engines of these types of classic exotic vehicles should be re engineered in order to offer a well-performing travel experience. You should check on these types of aspects before hiring a service provider.

There are plenty of other items to be considered. For starters, to make certain the Rolls Royce is made available to you, you must plan and book ahead of time. Too many of them are not available simultaneously, simply because demand from customers is huge especially in the wedding season. Second, do not opt for much less expensive suppliers, unless you are satisfied with their services. When it comes to traditional automobiles, lot money is put in re-engineering them, consequently rental fees are usually substantially high. Low rental fees means deterioration in services.

When you opt for a Rolls Royce limo service, you should definitely have ample time at hand and take into account the distance you need to travel. Vintage cars are not really ideal for speedy travel, even if they are maintained well. An extended distance will need somewhat more time for you to cover. Therefore, if you\’ve a well informed approach, your Rolls Royce ride is going to be a moment to cherish all your life.

Limo service MD is right automobile rental company to lease a Rolls Royce for your big day. As mentioned above Rolls Royce is really a classic which gives your wedding day a hit of luxury, make sure the limousine company is legal, ask for an agreement, visit the limo company and make sure the Rolls Royce is within good condition, book ahead of time and be sure you have you estimate the travel time.

Limos Maryland are a good solution of moving in style whenever in Maryland. You will find several remarkable firms that provide Limo Service MD online.

The Mapes Hotel: Reno\’s Lost Art Deco Jewel

November 16th, 2010 No comments

On January 31, 2000, the historic Mapes Hotel in Reno was imploded by 75 pounds of explosives tucked into the art-deco structures support columns. The destruction of the Mapes put an end to years of efforts to preserve the building via lawsuits, redevelopment proposals, and grass roots action. The National Trust for Historic Preservation took up the cause of the Mapes, and challenged the destruction in a suit that eventually reached the Nevada Supreme Court.

While the efficacy and justification of demolishing the Mapes is debatable, one thing that is not is the glorious history of the hotel. It was built in\’47, and signaled the start of the modern era of casino gambling. Despite the notoriety of Bugsy Siegel and the Flamingo in Las Vegas, it was the Mapes that became the first building in the nation to have a hotel, casino and live entertainment under one roof. It also became the hotel of choice for celebrities staying in Northern Nevada. Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe stayed at The Mapes during the filming of \’The Misfits\’. Joseph McCarthy, America\’s famed anti-Communist crusader, admitted to a reporter over cocktails in the Mapes Lounge that he really didn\’t have a list of Communists in the US despite his frequent and vitriolic insistence to the contrary.

During the \’Rat Pack\’ era of the 50\’s and 60\’s it became along with the Cal-Neva Lodge in Lake Tahoe the place to be seen in Northern Nevada. The 11th floor, window walled Sky Room Lounge hosted performances by a roster of entertainment legends including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin, Louis Prima, Keely Smith, Milton Berle and Mae West. Downtown Reno struggled during the\’60\’s and 70\’s but the Mapes continued to prosper. The hotel finally closed in\’82, due to financial problems experienced by the Mapes Family brought about by their other Northern Nevada casino holdings.

While the last twenty years brought an amazing boom in the population and economy of Southern Nevada, the Northern part of the state didn\’t see much of it at all. For that reason, the urgency of destroying the Mapes is even more questionable. In the Las Vegas area, its easy to justify the demolition of older hotels with simple economics–the older properties simply can\’t compete in the current mega-resort dominated marketplace. Furthermore, the insane valuation of the land on which they sit makes it financially unfeasible to preserve them as pop culture museums.

This is not the case in Reno, where land and buildings for development in virtually every casino area are abundant. The city argued that the land on which the Mapes stood was necessary for their redevelopment efforts–a somewhat absurd position given the realities of downtown Reno and the lack of any real development on the property since the demolition. Despite receiving a number of viable concepts for the Mapes Building, the City Redevelopment Authority rejected all of them and the Mapes was destined for demolition.

The role of the City Redevelopment Authority was questioned throughout the process. Overlooking the Truckee River, the hotel was on a prime location between the downtown casino area and the riverfront district. A number of sound financial proposals were presented that would preserve the integrity of the structure including condominiums, office space, and perhaps most viable, upscale senior apartments. Oddly, all of these proposals were turned down by the citys Redevelopment Agency which continued to maintain that demolition was the only viable option despite copious evidence to the contrary.

Following the 2000 demolition, the lot remained vacant for over a year until a temporary ice skating rink was hastily constructed the following winter. The property has been improved and the rink is now permanent which, while not in itself a bad use for the land, further calls into question the efficacy of demolishing the structure. It would appear that the city had no clue what to do with the land, but for whatever reason wanted the building brought down. This has led to all sorts of conspiracy theories, from the City Development Agency having financial incentive to raze the hotel to rumors that the building was haunted and was destroyed to keep the Reno area from being overrun with paranormal activity. Whatever the reason for the decision, the city of Reno has lost a beautiful art deco treasure that played a significant part in the economic growth of the state.

Is a Cruise Ship Vacation For You?

November 15th, 2010 No comments

By Marianne Schwab

Cruise vacations are a lot of fun and a great value, but they’re not for everyone, so I want to explore what to expect on a cruise ship vacation and help you determine what type of cruise is right for you. I actually think almost everyone will love cruise vacations, but you have to determine what type of a cruise is for you – a short 4-day cruise, a long 14-day cruise, a Caribbean Cruise, a Mediterranean Cruise…well, you get the picture. I must confess that at one time I was not a fan of cruise vacations. As a matter of fact, I couldn’t think of a worse way to spend a vacation than on a ship. But in the past few years, I’ve become a converted fan to cruise vacations and have been on three very fabulous (and very different) cruises (primarily because I was chasing a cheap travel deal) and I can now honestly say that I love a cruise ship vacation! But let’s go over a few questions you should ask yourself to determine if a cruise is for you or if a cruise is not for you.

1. Do You Get Sea Sickness or Motion Sickness Easily?

The number one reason many people think that they will not like cruise vacations is because they are prone to getting motion sickness or sea sickness. I personally understand this as I can get very sea sick when I am a passenger on speed boats, small boats or catamarans if I do not take the necessary precautions. For me, these precautions involve taking a motion sickness prevention product called Bonine (for adults and kids) that you can purchase at any drugstore or department store like Target or Walmart (but use only as directed). Personally, I haven’t had any issues with sea sickness on cruise ships (even when we’ve experienced very high winds or swells and the boat was really rocking).

2. Why Do You Want to Take a Cruise Ship Vacation:

A. Because You Want to Experience a Cruise?

PROS:

Cruise ships are like four-star floating resorts and they are much more than a vacation. They are an experience like no other vacation you’ll ever have. Cruises are a great value since they are “all-inclusive” vacations that include your transportation to different ports (when you’d otherwise have to book additional airfares), your hotel (since you always have your cabin), and your meals (offered 24/7 on many cruise ships). They are one of the best travel deals you can get for a cheap vacation when you add up what it would cost you to do a similar vacation with additional airfares, hotels and meals, not to mention the quality of the accommodation.

You can make your cruise ship vacation whatever you want it to be. Your days on a ship can be packed with activities from morning until night or you can just spend time relaxing, go shopping and sunbathing by the pool, or just hang out in your stateroom. And when you arrive in each port, there are dozens shore and land excursions for you to do as well.

CONS:

If you’re single or a couple with no kids, then you may want to avoid taking cruise vacations during a season when school is out (especially during spring breaks) or traveling on a cruise line that heavily caters to families. If you have a family, make sure you don’t choose a cruise line that caters to older adults (including senior citizens) and is not kid-friendly. Several cruise lines have kids travel free programs (or offer this discount periodically, like MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises) and these are good cruise lines for you to look into.

B. Because You Like the Cruise Itinerary and Ports of Call?

PROS:

One of my favorite things about a cruise ship vacation is that you’re able to visit many different destinations all on one cruise, without ever having to repack and all for one amazing price! On a recent 10-Day Western Caribbean cruise, I had a balcony stateroom and went to the Cayman Islands, Columbia, Panama, Costa Rica, and Mexico for a total of $535 per person (including port fees and taxes)! This cruise itinerary was perfect because I had just the right amount of time at every port city and country that we visited.

CONS:

Now from the good to the bad and the ugly when it comes to choosing cruise vacations based on the cruise ship itinerary. I took an amazing 8-Day Mediterranean Cruise out of Barcelona with ports in Naples, Rome, Florence, Nice and Marseilles. I had never been to Spain, Italy or the South of France so this was a great itinerary in principle. What I discovered — and what you need to be aware of — is how limited time can be when you port. Usually port time is no more than 10-12 hours. For example, by the time I actually got into Rome from port (a 60-90 minute train trip), I only had seven hours to actually sight see. You definitely need much more time than that to see all the city of Rome has to offer and hit the highlights (the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel & The Coliseum).

On cruise vacations, you also need to be prepared that you may occasionally be unable to port due to inclement weather conditions. This is what happened with Florence so I did not get to get my proverbial photo holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa. With all that said, I had two weeks of incredible experiences packed and condensed into four days on shore including being blessed by the Pope in St. Peter’s Square in Rome and standing just 12 feet away from him as he came by in the famous “Pope Mobile.”

C. Both A & B. Because You Want to Experience a Cruise and You Like the Cruise Itinerary?

PROS & CONS:

There is one difficult part of planning cruise vacations if you want to experience a cruise and wonderful ports of call and that is where in the world do you want to go? With hundreds of different ports to choose from, you can find your dream cruise ship vacation with cruises all around the world including Alaska, the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe, Asia, Bermuda, Hawaii, New England and Canada. But no matter where you decide to go, seeing the world on a cruise ship vacation is unlike any other trip.
